William (Bill) Utley.. POWERFUL National AAU Swim Champion trained under Johnny Galvich at the Riviera Club where he set many National Age Group Records. Bill later went on to swim for Doc. Councilman at Indiana University where he continued to rank in the top performers.
William Utley, a three time NCAA
Champion, excelled in his first NCAA Championship in 1966, and never slowed
down. As a rookie, Utley placed first in the 200 IM, second in the 200
freestyle, third in the 100 freestyle, and swam the third leg of the first place
800 free relay team. This was Indiana's first time as NCAA Champions of the 800
free relay. In 1967, he took second place in the 200 and 400 IM and fifth in the
200 backstroke. He won the 400 IM and placed second in the 200 IM and ninth in
the 200 backstroke in 1968, and led off the fourth place 800 free relay team.
