Chester Jastremski was a force in three events, earning All-American honors in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 200 IM for three consecutive years. In 1961 he placed third in both breaststroke events and fifth in the 200 IM. 1962 and 1963 brought him four more third place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, and two fourth place finishes in the 200 IM. Jastremski saw the benefits of a team as he swam eight of his nine NCAA races with at least one teammate also earning All-American honors in that event. In 1961, Kenneth Nakasone placed tenth in the 100 breaststroke and seventh in the 200 breaststroke. John Roethke took fourth in the 200 IM. Nakasone swam with Jastremski again in 1962, finishing fifth in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 200 breaststroke. Cary Treemewan finished fifth in the 200 IM that year. In 1963 Jastremski swam the 200 breaststroke alone, but was one of three Hoosiers to earn points in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM. Nakasone finished fourth and Peter Anderson finished 11th in the 100 breaststroke while Edward (Ted) Stickles placed third and Treemewan finished seventh in the 200 IM. He was indicted into the IU Hall of Fame in 1983.
