Steve Muller, the oldest of
8 children, swam for Johnny Galvich at the Riviera Swim Club. He was rated among
the Nation's Best Age Group Swimmers and winner of a Big 10 swimming scholarship
to Michigan State University / continuing with Law School at the University of
Michigan. Steve wanted to be a Marine. The Marines accepted him in August 1966.
In May of 67, he arrived in Vietnam. Two days later, he was wounded in battle,
but was treated in the field and returned to action. On July 2nd, 1967, at
the age of 25, Steve died of rifle wounds while on patrol near Quang Tri, a
Marine hot spot at the time in South Vietnam near the demilitarized zone.
Steve's name can be found on the 'Vietnam Memorial' in Washington D.C.
