Edward (Ted) Stickles' ability to race every stroke
and every length earned him All-American distinctions eight times. In 1963, he
and Cary Treemewan became the first Hoosiers to do this in the 400 IM. Stickles
took third place and Treemewan finished sixth. Stickles also finished third in
the 200 IM and seventh in the 200 backstroke the same year. In 1962, he finished
fifth in the 200 backstroke and third in the 200 IM. 1964 brought another third
place finish in the 400 IM, a fourth place showing in the 200 IM, and a tenth
place finish in the 200 backstroke. He was indicted into the IU Hall of Fame in
1998.
